What arena floor access is
A standard ticket keeps you on the visitor levels, looking down at the arena. An arena floor ticket puts you on it. Listings describe entering through the Porta Libitina, also called the Gate of Death, and stepping out onto the floor.
The floor is a reconstruction. What you gain is the viewpoint: the seating tiers rise on every side, and you see the scale the way the fighters did.

48 hour validity
Arena floor tickets keep the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill valid for 48 hours. Standard entry gives you 24.
That second day matters. Seeing all three sites unrushed takes 4.5 to 5 hours, and few people want it in one sitting. With 48 hours you can do the Colosseum on one day and the Forum and Palatine Hill on the next.
What arena floor costs
The official adult price of about EUR 18 does not cover the arena floor. Arena floor access is an add-on, sold at a higher price that depends on the provider and the date.
Book early. Arena floor slots sell out weeks ahead in peak season, and about 30 days ahead is the usual advice for any date.
