Colosseum dress code and entry rules
Unlike St Peter's Basilica and most Rome churches, the Colosseum has no shoulder or knee dress code. Security screening is still strict.

There is no formal dress code. Wear whatever suits a day of walking on uneven ancient stone, comfortable shoes matter more than covered shoulders here.
Entry rules and security
Every entrance runs airport-style security with X-ray bag screening. There is no luggage storage on site, so an oversized bag means you are turned away at the gate, not just asked to check it. Arrive 15 to 20 minutes before your timed slot to clear security comfortably.
- Bags larger than 40 x 35 x 15cm, and any bag with a rigid frame or wheels
- Glass bottles (a plastic water bottle is fine)
- Full meals (small snacks are generally tolerated, a picnic is not)
- Selfie sticks and sharp objects
- Large costumes or masks
- Pets, except certified service animals
